My relationship with tea began in unexpectedly in the jungles of Costa Rica in 2015, where I was searching for meaning and found myself immersed living in an off-grid community. It was there that I met a free-spirited tea practitioner who introduced me not just to tea, but to its deeper essence. What started as a simple curiosity became something much more meaningful as I followed him to Guatemala and experienced tea in a more intentional, almost ceremonial way. Without fully realizing it at the time, I was being shown how tea could be a daily practice, one that invites presence, connection, and awareness.
As I continued my journey I began sharing tea at gatherings and festivals, I took notice of how profoundly it affected both myself and others. Tea became more than a drink; it became a bridge. It brought people together across all backgrounds into a shared space of openness, creativity, and reflection. Conversations deepened, laughter flowed, and something subtle but powerful unfolded in those beautiful moments. Through these experiences, my appreciation for tea grew, not just for how it made me feel, but for how it fostered connection and a sense of belonging.
Although life eventually pulled me in different directions, the impact tea had on me never faded. When I returned to it years later, it was with a renewed sense of purpose. Alongside a meditation practice that helped transform my inner world, I began to see tea as a tool for cultivating focus, presence, and self-understanding. It became clear that tea and meditation together could offer something deeply valuable: a way to quiet the noise, center the mind, and reconnect with oneself.
This realization inspired a new path, one rooted in sharing tea not just as a beverage, but as an experience. By creating spaces where people can gather, slow down, and engage both socially and introspectively, tea becomes a medium for community and inner exploration. Through continued study and guidance from experienced teachers, this journey has deepened into a lifelong practice at Drishti House, one where tea serves as both a companion and a guide toward greater awareness, connection, and peace.
